Creating connections
Our mission is to create and nurture
important community connections by helping local trailway groups in
the planning and development of their trails and greenways. We help
to create new trailways groups as new trails are established, we seek
new funding to accelerate land acquisition and trail development,
and we work with local communities to gather input for the development
of the West Michigan trails network.
Today there are 152 miles of established
regional trailways in West Michigan, and an additional 510 miles of
regional trails are currently planned. When completed, this proposed
regional network will pass through twenty counties and connect hundreds
of communities large and small. We plan to establish an uninterrupted
green belt linking the cities of Holland, Grand Rapids, Muskegon,
Pentwater, Cadillac, Greenville, Alma, Rockford, Lowell, and many
points beyond.
West Michigan is rich with natural,
cultural and historic resources and sites. By helping to link these
resources, the Trails and Greenways Coalition will foster the connections
needed to create a healthy lifestyle alternative that will enrich
the quality
of life for residents and visitors
alike.
